2019 MBYC Short Courses Regatta

Mark Tegio and Mike Dorgan advertised this regatta as fantastic and FREE FUN! It absolutely was. Unfortunately, an ankle injury kept Dorgan on shore while the rest of the sailors enjoyed champaign conditions. The wind filled in nicely for the noon start and topped out with puffs to 18 by the last race. Morty won the first race edging out D by a few feet at the finish with Rob Coutts and Mike Entwistle just behind. In the 2nd race, Rob Coutts jumped out to a nice lead in his beautiful Fantastica. He protected his lead from a late charge by D all the way to the finish line. Mike, Gregg, and Lee hope had a photo finish to round out the top 5 with new finnster Dave Ryan holding on for 6th. In the third race, D got the lead on the run in front of Lee Hope and held off speedy Rob Coutts on the last beat to the finish with Entwistle and Morty just back. In the 4th race, Mike Entwistle got a good start and just continued to open up on the fleet. He had such a big lead that he got to the windward mark finish line before the RC. So, the sailors sailed an extra run back to the starting line but the RC tossed the race… In the last race, Entwistle and Morty arrived at the top mark overlapped for 1st with D just back. At the bottom of the run, the 3 overlapped boats negotiated the exciting and (now) breezy jibe leeward mark rounding avoiding catastrophe. D escaped with the lead and held off Morty by inches at the finish line. The obviously tired fleet headed in for drinks and Ibuprofen.
